The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) reported on Sunday the death of nearly 12,679 people under torture during the last five years (since the breakout of the revolution) indicating that 99% of which were killed by the Assad regime.
In its annual report issued on Sunday and on the occasion of the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, SNHR confirmed that “the report is based on the daily documentation and investigation since 2011 and till now, and all the estimates included therein are registered with names, photos, place and date of death or detention and many other details”
The report also noted that “in light of the exceptional difficulties and the massive violations, what is stated in this report represents the minimum number of violations. The report also included testimonies for survivors from various parts of the conflict”
The report titled “we must save the rest of the detainees” clarified that the victims were killed in the period between March/2011 and June/2016, including 163 children and 53 women.
“Around 12,596 people were killed by government forces, including 163 children and 53 women,” said the statement.
According to the London-based watchdog, some 18 people were killed by PYD, the Syrian affiliate of terrorist PKK organization.
“Some 29 people were also killed by ISIS terrorist group, including a child and 13 women,” the statement said.
Within the report, Fadel Abdul Gani, director of SNHR, said: “Not a single case has been recorded by a legal arrest warrant and no family that has lost one of its members had notified us of receiving any investigation done by the regime to determine the cause of death”
“The regime has committed crimes against humanity,” he said, citing sexual assault, killing and involuntary disappearance as some of the practices by the Syrian regime.
The network reaffirmed that: “The regime has committed crimes against humanity, represented in torture, sexual violence, forced disappearances, and murder. Following the non-international armed conflict, all of these crimes turned into war crimes as well.”
