The Executive Director of SNHR Participates in a Seminar on Transitional Justice in Yemen and Syria

Mr. Fadel Abdulghany, Executive Director of SNHR, will be speaker in an online dialogue seminar entitled Transitional Justice in Yemen and Syria: Opportunities and Challenges Between Implementation and Preparation which is being held with the participation of a select group of researchers, officials and human rights activists from Syria and Yemen.

Abdulghany will give a presentation focusing on the path of transitional justice in Syria, including where current efforts have reached, the most prominent legal, institutional, political and security challenges that impede effective progress, as well as proposing practical approaches on how to overcome these challenges by ensuring the independence of the judiciary, protecting victims and witnesses, enhancing coordination between national institutions and relevant international bodies, and setting clear priorities for justice, accountability and non-impunity.

Also scheduled speak in the seminar:

  • Firas Hamdouni (Programs Director).
  • Maysaa Shujaa Al-Din (Senior Researcher at the Sana’a Center for Strategic Studies).
  • Zahraa Al-Barazi (Vice President of the National Commission for Transitional Justice in Syria and Advisor to the Minister on Transitional Justice).
  • Ishraq Al-Muqatri (Minister of Legal Affairs of the Republic of Yemen).

 

The seminar will be moderated by human rights activist, Maha Awad.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights emphasizes the importance of this type of comparative dialogue, which contributes to deepening the practical understanding of transitional justice pathways, exchanging experiences on public policy design, building institutional safeguards, and placing the rights and needs of victims at the heart of any transitional process.
